Ambala - The Intro

Ambala (/əmˈbɑːlə/) is a city and a municipal corporation in Ambala district in the state of HaryanaIndia, located on the border with the state of Punjab and in proximity of the state capital Chandigarh.

  •  Politically; Ambala has two sub-areas: Ambala Cantonment (Ambala Cantt) and Ambala City, approximately 3 kilometres apart, therefore it is also known as "Twin City".
  • It is also a major Railway junction. As a result, all major trains have a stop over here.
  • It has a large Indian Army and Indian Air Force presence within its cantonment area.
  • Ambala separates the Ganges river network from the Indus river network and is surrounded by two rivers – Ghaggar and Tangri – to the north and to the south. Due to its geographical location, the Ambala district plays an important role in local tourism.
  •  Ramesh Mal is the new elected Mayor of Ambala Municipal Corporation.

What is ADayIn Ambala?

A Day In Ambala

So my sister, who lives in Bangalore, calls me and asks, "Yaar Naman, mai ambala aa rahi hun ek din ke liye, tu bata kya kya hai Ambala me karne ka?" to which I said the exact same thing which I believe my every fellow 'Ambalii-slash-Ambalians' would have replied, "Khatam hai Ambala, didi, kyun aake time waste karre ho? Yahan ka to mall bhi shuru hote hi khatam hai! Chandigarh chale jao."

What happened next? Well, before I reveal that, I will tell you a little about my experience in Ambala. To start with, Ambala is my mother's parental town. Hence, I was born in Ambala, lived in Gurgaon for fifteen years, and got shifted here permanently, when my mother got transferred. I used to come here during my summer vacations every year to meet my grandparents. I have some faint memories of sitting at the Railway Station for hours with my Nanaji  to see the trains, going to a street in Halwai Bazar of City to have the famous Tikki-Chutney and a lot more.
As it happens to almost every kid after school, he goes to live a hostel life. So it happened to me, too. I and my brother, both live in hostels now (he's in class eleven in a Boarding School). After a long time, we plan to meet in Ambala itself, just the two of us (because my family had again moved!). Being the elder brother, I made him buy all the necessary items for his hostel. And once again we found ourselves in the narrow streets of Cantt (Ambala is divided into two parts, City and Cantt). After shopping for two hours, and having nice momos from Lovely Fruit Corner (umm  yup, Lovely!) , I was having a glass of nice and cold fruit beer when suddenly a thought came into my mind.
The next thing I did, as soon as I got back to hostel  was, calling my friend Rahul, who is a Computer Science student in my college, and share this idea with him.
Coming out of Flashback, I just called my sister back, asked her to visit this link and invited her to visit Ambala. And everything now has been successfully worked out, she is arriving this new year and I have taken this duty to make her 'A-Day-In-Ambala ', the 'The-Day-In-Ambala'!
And that's how, this website was created. ADayInAmbala.com. The basic idea of this website is to let a person, who is just visiting this small city for one day, have an idea about how to fully utilise this one day by putting light on the small, old and traditional things that Ambala is actually famous for (one of which is definitely not Galaxy Mall) and have a very pleasant stay in here.

A question that one may ask.. what is so special about Ambala? Or whether there is anything special about it or not?

Well, the answer is, yes, there is. And I do not mean by the number of malls or multiplexes in here, I mean by the real 'small town' identity and that is its small 'streets'. That's right, Ambala is the city of streets. Streets have all the life of Ambala. Be it the 'Kapda Market' of city or 'Rai Market' of Cantt, the smallest and largest of the things could be found in these 'Galian'.
And in these streets, we find the things that are unique and special. For instance, we have a 'Garg Puri Wala', a 'Nathu Samose Wala', a 'Kala Mandir' (garment shop), a 'Chann Di Hatti'!
For a person coming for the first time in Ambala, or even for an existing Ambalite, we made an exclusive list of things that are 'must experience' in Ambala. This list includes a pinch of food, shopping as well as site seeing places.
In short, grab a bag, take your wallet, no problem if there's less money in it because believe me, Ambala is damn cheap! And take your way on the G.T. Road to Ambala. For there's no place better where you could do a wedding shopping with so much fun, food and enjoyment!

We here did a lot of research to make your effort at Ambala a complete packaged holiday. From food to eat or site seeing to relax, everything you'll ever need, is mentioned right here.
